PS, The Preventive Maintenance Monthy

US Army examples from the Vietnam War

Supplied by Ken Mackenzie

PS, The Preventive Maintenance Monthly (1) is series of United States Army technical bulletins published since June 1951 as a monthly magazine with comic book-style art to illustrate proper preventive maintenance methods.  The magazine's title derives from its being a "postscript" to technical manuals and other published maintenance guidance.  The US Army still use the comic-book for maintenance instruction but paper production ended with the June 2017 issue (2); it is now only in digital app format and can be viewed both on Android and Apple phones  (3).

The following are some examples of the magazine issue during the Vietnam War.

1.  Originally published.during the Second World War as the Army Motors magazine by Will Eisner, the
publication's artistic director from its inception until 1971.
When creating PS, Eisner re-enlisted Joe Dope
and brought along Connie Rodd and Sgt Half-Mast McCanick from
Army Motors. Over its nearly 70-year
history, other characters have populated its pages, some briefly, others for its entire run.
